Yesterday was cold but bright and sunny in Madrid, a perfect day for taking a look at some street sculptures in the city. The first few images are from an exhibition of work by Xavier Mascaró which has been installed in the Paseo de Recoletos.
Then I went down to the CaixaForum where they have installed this sculpture outside as part of a major exhibition of the work of Miquel Barceló.
Closer inspection of the plaque suggests I may have got the name of this work slightly wrong, but it made for a better title.

The only justification for the last sculpture exhibition I saw that ran along the Castellano was to conceal people pissing at night, and their residues. This one doesn't seem much different, except for being clearly inadequate for said function. Too many holes.
Uptight elephant? That planted wall kept me sane on many a day, missing greenery. The elephant is no contribution.
A bit of sculpture on my street might be useful then, if it stops people from pissing on the entrance to my building. I quite like the elephant, and I think it's a good way of advertising an exhibition to have part of it outside. Anyway, the planted wall is just across the street from the Jardin Botanico and Retiro. Some of this area has now become a reserve for Madrid's few surviving pedestrians.
